Jake Peavy is undoubtedly one of the best pitchers in baseball, and if you take that off a team, it hurts. The Padres were more than happy to welcome Peavy back to their starting rotation and he was more than happy to remind people why he is so good.
Peavy masterfully threw six innings of three hit shutout baseball. He struck out four and walked none. The offense supplied more than necessary output, winning 9-0.
Hiroki Kuroda was not so lucky. The Padres jumped on him for four runs and two homers in the first inning. The first two batters reached base and Brian Giles promptly cleared them with a three run shot. Adrian Gonzalez followed with a homer of his own and put the Padres up to stay.
Gonzalez had two hits, while his brother Edgar had three.
Kuroda lasted just 2.1 innings and gave up five hits and six runs. He also walked four.
The Padres took the series by a count of 2 games to 1.
