Last night it was Adrian Gonzalez. This afternoon it was rookie Kevin Kouzmanoff who came through with the late inning heroics. With the game tied 1-1. Kouzmanoff drove home Khalil Greene with a walk off RBI single to win it. The other Padre run came in the sixth when Jose Cruz, Jr. hit a solo homerun.
Jake Peavy had a nice start but he didn’t pick up the win. He gave up one run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in seven innings of work. Scott Linebrink picked up the win after a perfect tenth.
So the Padres stand at 4-2 and they’re half a game back of the 5-2 Diamondbacks. Next up are the Giants who sit at the bottom of the NL West. Chris Young gets the start tomorrow in the series opener.
