The Padres signed first baseman Adrian Gonzalez to a four year, $19.5 million contract extension yesterday. While not your prototypical slugging first baseman, Gonzalez is a patient hitter who had a solid .304 batting average. Twenty four homeruns when you play half of you games at Petco isn’t too shabby. My only concern is he’s had just the one really good year, but for less then $5 million, this is probably going to be a bargain.
