Padres Get Excellent Relief in Fourteen Inning Win

by @ 5:15 pm. Filed under 2007 Padres

Geoff Blum doubled home a run in the top of the fourteenth as the Padres finished with a split in their two games series with the Cubs.  Greg Maddux blew a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning but from that point on, the relief core was excellent.  Five relievers combined to hold the Cubs to just two hits in nine shutout innings.

Adrian Gonzalez went four for seven in the game.  Marcus Giles went three for seven with a run and an RBI.

Next up is a two game series with the Diamondbacks.  David Wells will go up against last year’s Cy Young winner, Brandon Webb.  This is as good of a way as any to make up some ground on the two teams in front of the Padres.
