Padres, Chris Young Agree to Contract Extension

by @ 12:05 pm. Filed under 2007 Padres

That’s a pretty pricey shutout Chris Young threw last night.  The Padres were so impressed, they locked him up to a four year, $14.5 million contract extension that’ll take him through 2010 and then there’s a team option for 2011.  This is huge and the price is very reasonable for a guy who’s definitely a solid number two on a lot of teams. If they could lock up Jake Peavy to a similar deal, you’d have a great core for the rotation for years to come.

The most they’ll be paying him in any given season is $8.5 million and that’s the option year.  This is huge bargain.  It looks like the next guy they’re trying to lock up is Mike Cameron.  You have to like the front office going out and making a committment to a solid core of players.
