Alright, the Padres got win number one under their belt and they did it with some nifty pitching. Jake Peavy led the way and he threw six shutout innings with six strikeouts and then Cla Meredith and Heath Bell combined for three scoreless innings to close the game out.
At the plate, Josh Bard had a big game. He went four for five with two runs and an RBI. Jose Cruz, Jr. tripled and drove in two runs while Brian Giles had two hits and a run.
Not a bad start and it was against the Giants ace, Barry Zito. Tomorrow, it’ll be Chris Young against Matt Cain and that’s a nice matchup between two young pitchers.
