This one was over before the half way point as Padres pitchers gave up nine runs in the first five innings. David Wells took it on the chin and he gave up five runs on eight hits in just 2 1/3 innings. Mike Thompson was also knocked around for four runs in 3 2/3 innings.
The lone Padre run came on a rally ending double play by Khalil Greene. Brian Giles scampered home on the play. Giles was the only Padre who finished with two hits.
Jake Peavy gets the ball tonight and he’ll go up against Jason Schmidt in a solid pitching matchup. The Padres can tie things back up with the Dodgers (both in the series and for the season) with a win tonight.
