I’m still reeling a little big after the Padres sent Adrian Gonzalez out of town. I understand why they did, it just doesn’t make it any easier. Anyway, the Padres are close to signing Brad Hawpe to take Gonzalez’s place. He’s mostly been an outfielder in the past and the Rockies cut bait on him this year after four solid seasons in a Colorado uniform. This is a good move because we’re getting Hawpe when his stock is low and a bounceback would make the Gonzalez trade be a more little more palatable.
There’s still a physical which is why the deal hasn’t been announced and the numbers been thrown out. It’ll be interesting to see how Hawpe fairs when he goes from the hitter friendly Coors Field to the more pitcher friendly PETCO Park. Kyle Banks is also in the mix but he had elbow surgery so who knows when he’ll be back.
