For the past five years, Adrian Gonzalez has been the Padres best hitter. He’ll have at least one more year to that because the Padres picked up Gonzalez’s $6.2 million option for next year. Gonzalez belted 31 home runs last year and the next closest on the team was Will Venable with 13.
There’s two big questions. The first is, do the Padres try to lock up Gonzalez long term at some point during the season? The second is, with the playoff miss this year, what are the Padres going to do to build around Gonzalez so we can get back into the postseason?
